Hello- this is my first post.
I can't seem to find an up to date butterfly sightings feed anywhere. Bug Alert is inactive, with all species having "data last modified - 09/03/2018" on their page.
Twitter seems to carry very general news only in UK Butterflies
I am interested in seeing some migrants and, given the weather this year, I thought that this would be a good year, especially in early September. Does anyone know of a site or group I can join where people will share sightings of things like Pale Clouded Yellow etc
And how did the lepidopterists of the past know where to flock to when the rare migrants came to these shores? They must have had some kind of bush telegraph, as they can't all have known each other
I know Charles Rothschild maintained contact with many lepidopterists who telegrammed him any sightings, and he would be chauffeured there post haste.
So does anyone know of a site or group I can join where people will share sightings of things like Pale Clouded Yellow, Long-Tailed Blue etc?
Oh- here is a thank you for the forum owners for making and keeping a fascinating site, and to all who have created the content

I do not know of a sight that communicates up to date sightings of rare migrant butterflies, most of those interested in butterflies, in Britain today are not collectors but photographers and any locations as such, will be kept secret. As for meeting Colias hyale, things have changed since Rothschild's day , its now one of our rarest migrants and rarely seen, if at all, in some years. Sorry I cannot be more helpful, the only chance to see any migrant butterflies, is to visit the south or east coast and explore, looking for nectar sources or in some cases where the foodplant occurs.

UK butterflies sightings may be useful. However you will cop plenty of abuse if you let on that you're a collector www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/phpBB/index.php Also it might be worthwhile joining several Facebook groups, such as the county butterfly groups etc

UK butterflies is a conservation website only, the members are all concerned with only the protection of British Butterflies. If you want to collect rare British migrants pop over to the south of France before a few stragglers reach up here.

It is always worth looking on ebay, for rare British Migrants, or better contacting www.historicbritishbutterflies.com/about-us.html who might have examples. Sometimes they have rare British migrants for sale at the AES fair, but some there may not be genuine examples.
