Hello there, New here, and with a query! I'm currently working as part of a group in Sweden, looking at parasitism of A. levana. We've currently got large numbers of second generation adults, and are wanting to pair them in the lab to use the larvae for further experiments, but are having no luck, does anyone have any advice, techniques or tips for pairing them to get eggs? We've tried caging them with flowers, sugar and foodplant and will attempt hand pairing today, but so far no luck. The only reference I've found so far to pairing them suggests that it's not possible (a brief snippet here: www.researchgate.net/publication/237213796_Generations_of_the_polyphenic_butterfly_Araschnia_levana_differ_in_body_design) as a result of their lekking behaviour, so if anyone's got any experience of breeding lekking species more generally, I'd be keen to hear that too! Cheers!
