I was wondering the other day why there is no general book on British beetles, you could fill two large tables with those on moths and butterflies. I believe it is because there are 4000 British beetles. They mostly seem publish specialist books here on the different family groups. Still you thought that the British Coleopterists would have at least produced a guide to the more frequent species of the different families and a guide to the different genera. It is a rather strange situation as they are a popular group. The last two volume guide was Beetles Of The British Isles by E.F. Linssen and that was published in 1959!! Below. Link to the discovery of a new British Longhorn www.nhm.ac.uk/about-us/news/2017/september/new-native-british-beetle-found-in-ancient-scottish-forests.htmlI enjoyed this article a lot especially the bit " it also emphasises the importance of collecting".
