Bombylius canescens.
I must admit bee flies are among my favourite insects, several species are harbingers of spring. One of the few species with have in the UK is the delightful and small Bombylius canescens that has clear wings. A scarce species, it is mainly known from Wales and Western England. I found a few individuals visiting a flowery bank on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire in June. In the photographs two are visiting Germander Speedwell, Veronica chamaedrys (flowers 8 to 11 mm wide).

I too like bee flies a lot. Whenever I'm afield I keep a sharp eye out for any that may be present. Very cool little fellows...

I love this one! It looks like the plush toy, soft.
