I showed these on insectnet but thought people might want to see the great mans, or part of his collection on here, G E Hyde was a Doncaster born entomologist and world renowned butterfly collector/breeder who passed away in 1986. His wife Kathleen donated his substantial British collection of butterflies and moths, many bred by George himself including some fantastic vars to Doncaster museum where dermestids are slowly picking away at this magnificent collection stuck in a room that nobody ever visits.

These few pictures are but a small amount of his complete collection of British lepidoptera, his life's work. Attachments:

Fantastic stuff, I just hope that most, if not all of this collection still survives intact & pest free!, I can only assume that the George E Hyde Specimens that I have possession of, came via him passing on his specimens to other collectors prior to his demise, Besides the Maculinea arion, I also have some M aurinia, including one from Ireland, a Hipparchia semele from the Burren, and some Coenonympha tullia davus.
Whilst on the G E Hyde theme, a few years ago, a fellow Entomologist sent me a postcard featuring a Melanargyia galathea, the text on the other side gave some information about this species, with the photograph being credited to G E Hyde!, I subsequently received two more, which I will try to upload here:

George was very well known for his insect photography and books, I have a couple of signed copies, he was also very generous to his friends giving away many of his specimens. I am afraid his collection already has signs of infestation, the girl in charge of them is about 12 years old and has no real interest in it, A friend of mine offered to buy it last year but was declined on the grounds of the collection being left to the country for study, as far as I know I am the only person to see it in the last 5 years. Nowadays of course, they are not permitted to use paradichlorobenzine or napthalene so they would need to freeze all the drawers.
