Many thanks Adam for you kind comment. It is ever my hope that people might find something of interest in these pieces written mainly during the winter months.

The strongest colonies of M. arion in Britain were on the Atlantic coast of south-west England between Bude in Cornwall and Hartland Point in Devon. Those from North Devon and Cornwall were said to be of brighter blue than those found in the Cotswold Hills of Gloucestershire. There was also once a good population of M. arion on the South Devon coast between Salcombe and Bolt Head. Discovered in the latter locality in 1856, it died out there by the 1890s due to the habitat being overgrown with Bracken. Specimens of M. arion.
