Yes, that is the ransom image that everyone will get, as yet I can still see my images, hundreds of them this forum from photobucket. When people the World over see this image, they will ignore it, no one is going to pay that amount! I expect all the hosting sites including flicker are waiting to see if this is the end of that company. and now a can see their ruddy great sign enlarged being advertised as a heading on this forum.

I got a notice from them too. I'll reload them after I decide on a solution, but it will take awhile.

I expect imgur and perhaps others, have a massive overload from bucket's actions, hopefully they will not follow their lead, so this may be an option for now but who knows what the future will bring. It would take a long while for me to find and reload all the pictures in my articles and threads, and I expect not to have the time to do all (many) of them again, so quite a few will thus remain, I am afraid, image less when the bucket ransom sign appears. Every time I log on here I get the sign please update your account above my recent posts.

That's why I'm suspicious of switching to Imgur - if they think that Photobucket's ransom is successful, they'll do likewise. I may upload everything to a Flickr account instead.

Photobucket actions does not seem to have received a single comment on the forum Insectnet, as the regular members there are content, perhaps frugally to use use the forums attachment service when uploading there click to enlarge photos.

I am seriously thinking in future about limiting the amount of images I upload, hosting sites problems and they could all vanish at any given moment anyway. As Adam and others mentioned, Nothing but the written printed word lasts forever.

I'd be incredibly surprised if imgur went the way of Photobucket. Imgur's primary reason for being is providing hosting for images to be posted on forums. Now, it's also evolved into a sort of image based social media platform. Unlike Photobucket which always had made it clear they were looking to find ways to profit from those using its service, Imgur has no "premium service subscription" or whatnot.
Edit: I should say, flickr is great too. Unfortunately, it doesn't play nice with a slow internet connection so I'm no longer using it.

I just deleted my account with photobucket as my only purpose of use was for this forum. I didn't like their service anyway because of tens of adds going on therefor making difficult to navigate. Hopefully more users will ditch photobucket and they will be forced to close.

Email from photobucket. Worried about your account!! "All of our Plus Members are grandfathered in for 3rd Party Hosting until the end of your current subscription (That is me at the moment). However, if you want to beat the crowds and upgrade to the Plus 500 now, we'll give you six months on us! Worried about cost? Rest assured, the price will be prorated depending on your subscription"! I wondered why my images were still showing. Beat the crowds, what the ones that all rushed to the door and left. Are they worried?

I have cancelled Photobucket and now use Imgur. I started to recover all photos on my Southeastern Asian Butterflies thread. I must say Imgur is much more fast and not too many adds which makes the process of inserting photos more pleasure than Photobucket which made me always stressful. Lets hope Imgur will stay this way.

PS. I guess in your case Peter because you have already subscribed and paid for their service they worry to lose a customer. For free riders like most of us I doubt they would care.
