We can thank Adblock for these issues. More and more difficult to create sustainable websites (including the ICF) because people install those adblockers and don't see and click on banners Internet is not free.
This said, I agree that 400 USD seems crazy ! They cannot fo from free to 400 USD in one day.
Let's see how things evolve
For the moment Peter, I can see your pictures.

Thanks. You should see the comments from the users, I think this brainwave may be the end of them. No advance warning just a note to update to use their link.

For the moment Peter, I can see your pictures. They have a lot of pictures to block, its only a matter of time, I expect they will give you a little to put your hand in pocket.

This is my experience too. No warning at all just the sudden disappearance of my pictures in this forum and replaced with a nasty logo. They will not be getting any money from me either. This is all the more unfortunate because this forum is enlightened by photos of the specimens under discussion. I hope this is resolved happily for us.

Yes, let' hope nobody pays this ransom so that they have to figure out a more clever solution...
In the meantime, I recommend our members to use Imgur hosting.

Ridiculous - not a penny from me to Photobucket.
You can also use Flickr for free posting with easy sharing links.

Doesn't Google have a free image hosting site any more? They used to have one called Picasa, and I think they moved it to a new site when they closed that, but I don't know for sure. There must be other free options available too.
Adam.

AFAIK Flickr doesn't allow free sharing with our forum software. Let me know if I am wrong

I don't know about other members but I keep all my photos on my hard drive so if photobucket will block my photos on forum I will take time and reload them from another host site which I will be choosing then. It will be time consuming but it will be worth $400.00 for sure. I hope Peter is keeping his photos not only on photobucket as he has a great great collection.

I have most of my images, so when photobucket delete them in the threads here, I will change them slowly as time allows, although it could be a long process, as luck would have most of my recent posts were with imgur and hopefully, they do not take photobucket's lead with such an excessive charge. I have changed the images I did with photobucket to imgur in two recent articles because I want to continue them with more posts. The trouble is, myself and lot of other people used photobucket over a long period on this forum and by the number of views, people continue to view them long after they are posted. Its quite annoying really as most of the posts here are only for interest to fellow entomologists and not for any personal gain.
