Last month I was offered some Coeliades (Hesperiidae) pupae, originating from Kenya, by Stratford Butterfly Farm. These duly arrived and most managed to emerge satisfactorily. As these are a different species from the usual species offered by commercial outlets I thought others might be interested in seeing them. The larvae of Coeliades forestan have a wide range of foodplants but the larvae of C kenya have a limited range. C forestan is a species found throughout Africa, whereas C kenya is an endemic to the coastal region of Kenya. The pupae turned out to be Coeliades kenya. Here is a picture of the pupae.
