From the same buying trip, 3 examples of the Lime Hawk moth Mimas tiliae, these are from 1909, the bottom one is especially extreme, could do with resetting but as they are so old I won't bother, I think they retain a certain something when seen on the old pins, I love to rescue old specimens from a certain dermestid attack.

According to my book, Your top two tiliae would be ab. centripunctata. Not sure about the bottom, one, a most unusual specimen. It would have taken, I believe a large amount of breeding to obtain these rare abs.

For those of you who are not familiar with this species here is a picture of the normal form. That was my first Sphinx moth I have collected in Poland back in 1983 ! I love that species ! Paul

Those three I have collected in Poland in early '80. They are nor abs as yours but the bottom one was the first one I found! Paul

Those are lovely Paul. This is a 1919 specimen of the normal form, from Hampshire.

There is some unusual abs of this species in the Bristol collections, I am there Monday, so will take a look at them
