I recently started the collection of thise wonderful glass wing butterflies from tropics of South America and I am wondering if some of the members have some pictures to share. Particularly I would like to see C.andromeda azurina from Amazonas State in Brazil. It is very hard to find a specimens of those.

Am I mistaken in believing these are Satyrinae?

At least with these unusual butterflies, you can read the data labels easily. If a single label is attached, I have always wondered why collectors do not put the labels, the way they can read them without removing them. Of course old specimens might have several. I am sure there must be other collectors to share their specimens of these unusual butterflies here. I wonder what Henry Bates made of these butterflies when he first saw them in his journeys along the Amazon!

Andromeda and Azurina certainly must be two of the best of the Cithaerias. And Cithaerias is the best of the glass wing genera. Andromeda is simply breathtaking...

I was hoping that some of the members might have the specimen of C.andromeda azurina in the collection, but it looks like this subspecies is very rare or there is no interest of this genus around our members. As most of you probably know I rather don't buy specimens and prefer to find them in nature by my self, however this particular species of Cithaerias is unreachable as it occurs in Brazil. Other species of this genus are on my wish list to find them in Peru, which I hope I will be able to visit in not far future.
