The Cardinal Beetle, Pyrochroa serraticornis of the Pyrochroa family is a fairly frequent and unmistakable beetle that is found a number of well wooded habitats where it hunts other insects. The larvae are flattened in appearance, which enables them to live under loose bark where they feed on the larvae of other insects. All the images below were taken by me in 2016, the first two of an example along a hedgerow on the edge of a lowland meadow, the last hunting on bracken in an old Forest.
