In my humble opinion I think the photograph looks photoshopped. There are three other photos offered but, only one shows an underside view. If it is a true bi-lateral gynander it should have one visibly clear clasper which I can't quite make out....
And the price for this item is out of this world at $12,000.
You could find yourself an excellent (bred/male) specimen of Ornithoptera allotei at the European insect fairs for around $4000 these days.
Not only does the O. alottei look more beautiful --- it is far more believable a expensive bauble to own.

Thank you very much africaone for your reply !
Also, a belated "congratulations" on the naming of this new species.
Thank you as well Adam for directing us to that original notice posted back in March of this year (which I never saw / overlooked) at the time it was posted.

Hello africaone,
I noticed an author named Cipolla just described this species this year. Is he a colleague ? The species bears your last name.
Can you elaborate if the species was collected by you and named or was it (found out) by searching through large series of Papilio policenes and then discovered to be something different ?
Or is there something more to the story?
Just idle curiosity and thank you for your time...

I cannot add much of a scientific viewpoint here but, numbers 1 & 2 are absolutely stunning !
I think if you contact africaone or mothylator you will definitely get some good scientific viewpoints (as both of them) are specialists of the African butterfly fauna.
Adam may be of some help as well since he is a papilionid specialist however, I am unsure how well versed he is in the African genus of Graphium.

Very impressive curation of your collection indeed !
Do you specialize on Cerambycidae ?
Some of your series are extensive.

Wow, you made a “killing” on those nice Parnassius with lots 17 & 21...
Man, 5 boxes total of those beauties. Damn, that guy had some nice specimens !
I didn’t save a picture from lot #74 so not sure quite what you got there but, everything before it was Parides. Hope you got good ones of those.
Did you have to do much “arm wrestling” to wrestle those boxes away from other buyers. 💪😱😊

Say radusho, what lots did you win ?
I saved a lot of the pic's because the specimens were so nice.

Hello nomad, yes, you are right in your comments about Juvisy. I know someone who was there about 10 years ago and he has always remarked at how "nice" the material available was. But, he also said that rarities and "hard to get's" were a real swift "kick in the pants" (as he put it) to own. So, I erred in my statement of "generalizing" that this grand fair was overpriced. I can only wish one day to see it for myself. My friend said Paris alone was well worth the trip. The fair was the ice-ing on the cake !

You know, going to auctions like these is pretty much like jumping head-long into a "shark tank" with your goldfish suit on !
Probably worse than going to an overpriced fair like Juvisy....
Of coarse, the material was REALLY "good looking" so the owner had splendid taste in his specimen choices throughout. Sorry, I could not have been there to kick around a couple bids on some of the common stuff.

Radusho, what are your thoughts on the Parnassius boxes?
Are they nice? overpriced? Anything of notoriety?
Would just like a specialists perspective...

Thank you very much mygos for informing us of this wonderful auction !
Although I " live across the pond" as the British saying goes and I hardly have the kind of money to meet the price estimations of the cases; I still find this to be one of the "finest looking" collections that I have seen offered.
The owner truly had a keen eye for especially nice specimens. His material is generally very well prepared throughout.
As an aesthetic collector (myself) with high standards; this collection stood out immediately... I am also amazed at the breadth and scope of this man's collection.
The owner seemingly had a wide-ranging interest in lepidoptera and yet his series were just large (enough) to provide an adequate sampling of any given species.
What a fine collection to be offered up for auction. I think it is a good thing to see the specimens go back into the hobby where others can enjoy them equally as much as the owner did for many many years to come.

I am saddened by the loss of deliasfanatic. Though I did not know him personally he was indeed an active and "involved" member of the forum. He freely shared photographs of his splendid butterfly drawers and was VERY knowledgeable about Papilionidae and Delias to say the least...
He also seemed a very kind and thoughtful gentleman in that he fostered a "positive influence" on the forum through his many (likes) of others specimens, articles, and inquiring questions.
My sincere condolences to those near and dear to him.
