That certainly is the strangest cabinet I ever seen, holding prints of butterflies instead of the real thing, hence those super thin drawers. I have never heard of this type of cabinet before, it is like a big wooden book. I like the Gothic style, with my type of strange furniture that would fit nicely into my house, that is, if it was the real McCoy. An expensive item. Thanks for the link.

They look like real butterflies to me. Mind that the body is not included, only wings. I think the wings are attached/ glued to the white square of cardboard . It is not visible if they are somehow protected from the top or the only protection is that cabinet. Description says they are prints some how achieved though, but why the artist did not paint also the body to achieve a whole look of specimens if it says that the prints where hand painted ? Paul

Looks more like a microscope slides cabinet which got recycled into an artistic interpretation of "The Butterfly Collector in 2500".

Unique, quite expensive, and certainly a conversation piece ! I like the style of it and I'm sure the prints are dandy but, a little too high priced for such a fancy bauble.
