My friend Rob de Vos informed me of the death of Henk van Mastrigt. I will copy paste Rob message as it is a perfect tribute to Henk !
" At 5th August 2015 17.30 pm Broeder Henk van Mastrigt passed away in Jayapura Hospital (Papua, Indonesia)! Science lost a great butterfly man, a specialist on Delias butterflies (Pieridae) but with an immense and very important collection of Papua Lepidoptera (including moths), a very kind and modest person who was always willing to help everybody. He was a host for many foreign lepidopterists to Papua, including myself. I am so sorry that it is just too late to see him alive in October this year when I will visit Papua again... Henk van Mastrigt, we will never forget you and honour you in our work which of course will be continued. I will do what I can to support the students and teachers of UNCEN and UNIPA in Papua, like you did! Rest in peace my friend."
R.I.P Henk, all Delias collectors and Papuan insect collectors will never thank you enough for all what you have done !
I have lost one of my heroes... Olivier
A picture of Henk, Bernard Turlin and me in Jayapura (West Papua) in Henk's museum. A smiling and generous man !

Foja Mountains...the place where each of us perhaps dream off to be for few days in the live time...it is something extraordinary, not just a collecting trip in the tropics. Wow...
PS I am traveling accross Southern Thailand and all I can see are plantations of rubber trees and oil palm trees...what a sad picture....the primary rain forest is gone forever . The only refugee places for wildlife are hard to reach pick of the mountains.

Dutch Franciscan TV channel with the help of Rob de Vos, Leiden Museum, has made a great tribute documentary to Henk van Mastrigt.
You will learn more about the man, his collection and his entomological students.
I recommend it for Delias/New Guinea lovers and for Henk's friends. You will also see some very nice images of Papuan rainforests, of Henk's collection, of night collecting there... It is in Dutch, but you will find a back-translation in attachment.

This instant is the best way to describe Henk : Zaïde: - What kind of a person was he actually? Rob: - He was a real philanthropist and also an animal lover. But of course he had a calling for the church. And he was a butterfly collector, actually he thought that this was his first calling! - Once he said by joke “why don’t you join us with the Franciscan Community?” And I said “but Henk, are you crazy? I am not even Catholic!” He: “Well, that doesn’t matter, you have plenty of time to collect butterflies!”
