There are two main modern publications on Parnassius in series, one by Manfred Dietz in 16 parts published between 1998 and 2004 and the other 6 part series by Jean-Claude Weiss (with Klaus Rose in part 5 and Jacques Rigout in part 6) published between 1991 and 2016. Dietz is older but has clearer maps and lots of photos of specimens; of course the Weiss series is much more up to date. Parts 5 and 6 are basically addenda to the original 4 parts. The Weiss series is available here www.insecta.de/shop/openstore.htm with parts 1, 2,3 4,and 6 under Weiss in the catalogue. Part 5 is searched by 'Rose' since he is the first author of that part, so confusingly it is separated from the other parts in the catalogue. Adam.

jmg, Apologies, I forgot about that very nice book by Bernard Turlin and Luc Manil. It is a very good overview of the species of Parnassius recognised in 2005. I would certainly recommend it for someone who only wants an overview without all the different subspecies. Adam.

Thank you Adam, is it possible that someone can let me see a few sample pages as it's a 705€ set and I cant seem to find samples online. I collect monographs as may have been noticed, they are less cumbersome than drawers of specimens and as I live in sub tropics using air conditioning rarely ,less of a problem and a hell of a lot cheaper😊

Check the work by Kocman: Parnassius of Tibet and adjacent areas. Very nice book and unlike any other authors he pictures every taxon described regardless if it was synonymized or not.
Also lets not forget monographs on apollo by Moehn or Glassl, and recently a monograph about mnemosyne was published by Glassl.

Hi all. Is anyone know anything about book "Parnassiology: the Parnassius Butterflies, a Study in Evolution"? Publisher is Hillside books. I have a copy. It is a superb work published in 2002, but the text is in Japanese. It was published by Kodansha, Tokyo, not Hillside Books, perhaps they were the European distributors. It is generally known in short as "Sakai" after the first author, but there are actually 5 authors: Seiji Sakai, Shigeru Inaoka, Toshiaki Aoki, Shuhei Yamaguchi and Yasuyuki Watanabe. The plates are very good, and data for each specimen is listed in English. There are also 84 photos of habitat and live butterflies.
