A bookplate or "ex-libris", is a printed engraved label that you paste in the inside front cover of your books to indicate that they are yours. In the past time, they used to represent arms, crowns, symbols, etc. An example here in situ : Here is mine representing where I live : a watermill, together with some swans (I have been breeding waterfawls for many years), parrots (I did run for 10 years a company specialized in professional equipments such as incubators, hand rearing serynges, nest boxes, and food for exotic birds), and last but not least (as I have many more hobies ...) with a butterfly as you would understand my passion for butterflies ! Here is an example of a famous french entomologist, Jacques NEGRE, who had 2 different "ex-libris", probably an earlier one and a later one together with a gilding iron to print with gold on the spine of his books ! Jacques d'Aguilar also has 2 different "ex-libris" Some more book plates of famous entomologists : Who has some nice bookplates to show ? A+, Michel

Very nice bookplates Manfred ! It is not so often that these are colored like yours. Do you have 2 different ones for different kind of books, or there was a version 1 and then 2 ?

Hi Michel,
yes, I take them for different kind of books.
I have a very large collection of art books. For those I use the no. 2 and no. 1 for all others. But I still need to design an Ex Libris for my entomological books.

Are your "ex-libris" some stickable labels ?

I bought an old book the other day, of which only a chapter really concerns entomology and was surprised to find this Ex Libris by the famous entomologist Edward Alfred Cockayne (1880-1956).
