Hi, this is my second year of keeping wild-caught praying mantis, and I had the luck to find one in the wild which was albino! It is a female and I have had it for two instars, the 6th and the 7th (I know this from last years experience). During this time it remained a whitish beige, and I assumed it was albino, but a few days after its 7th shed its head and legs started having a light greenish tinge. Within an hour this colour spread throughout its entire body, and while it isn't the colour of a regular mantis, it definitely isn't white. Does this happen often? I didn't know it was possible for an albino animal to stop being albino. Has anybody else experienced anything like this or know why it happened?

Update: My mantis is now just as dark green as my other females.

Sorry I can't give an explanation, but it sounds very unusual. I hope someone can provide some suggestions.
By the way, which part of the world are your mantids from?
Adam.

I live in Ontario. I'm not sure what the name of the species is, but the ones i have are the common green ones (I think the scientific name is Mantis Religiosa).

Hey I just found two brown mantids of the same species. I don't think they are supposed to be brown are they? I haven't seen any brown ones since this year.
