Found this in southern Alberta, Canada

I found this while doing some field work in Southern Alberta, Canada. I saw two like this on separate days. At first glance, I thought it might be a deer tick, but the back legs way too long obviously. To be specific, this was found near the Crowsnest Pass area in a forest of Douglas-fir/Engelmann spruce/lodgepole pine. Lots of understory vegetation. It has 8 legs and a red body that sits much lower than its legs.

Any ideas as to what this might be?

That might be a mite.

Try long legged velvet mite.

It's a mite in the order Prostigmata/Trombidiiformes (ticks are also mites, but in the order Ixodida). Obviously you will not find any help trying to search a suggested common name. For identification you must send the preserved specimen in alcohol to an expert in local prostigmate mites, or at least an expert in local mites.
