It's a male of a Saturniid (silkmoth), but you really must tell us where in the world your school is situated to be able to help identify it.

It is Antheraea polyphemus-male. It is common Saturniidae moth in N.America

I found this moth in Hernando county, Florida. About an hour north of Tampa on the west coast of Florida
