I’m not sure how they can receive CITES permit for this. It is appendix 1 species, no trade allowed and this auction is the trade. It doesn’t apply within EU of course.

I can only speak for the legal situation in Germany.
But if the butterflies were officially registered with the authorities at that time - within a certain period - a CITES certificate can be issued.
This also applies to Annex I animals.

One pair looks to be much better quality, especially the male.

Anybody with real experience with bidding by using Absentee bid ? I am registered on Drouot, but have not experience with available forms of payments and shipping to me by Geodis-Drouot. And unfortunately many of regulations and conditions are french only.

I’m not sure how they can receive CITES permit for this. It is appendix 1 species, no trade allowed and this auction is the trade. It doesn’t apply within EU of course. You can trade a CITES annex A species with an exemption from authorities, which Drouot certainly has as listed in the description (just like they had it for apollos from the past sales) Actually they only have CIC certificate which is only good to move specimen within EU. They don’t have CITES permit so it maybe a problem to import it outside of EU as for appendix 1 species one must first apply for import permit and then the seller has to get export permit and as per CITES regulation trade in appendix 1 species is strictly forbidden. Historical specimens registered can be kept legally but can not be resale to another country as far as I know.

" One pair looks to be much better quality, especially the male. " This pair sold to-day € 4100 . I'm not the buyer. The second pair around 400 or 500. Once again, not me.
