This species remains one of the most peculiar looking of the stag beetle clan (Lucanidae). It is native to Columbia although specimens do come out of Peru as well. My example measures 58mm. from mandible tip to abdomen. This is a rather slender and lightly-built species as lucanids go and it lacks the heavier build of its brethren. However, it is an elegant species decked out in its glossy black color. Magnificent.
