This wonderful example is something I've had for some time but, I felt it was in need of a re-spread. It's head and thorax are black while its wing covers and mandibles are a burgundy red. This is pretty good size for one of these considering 80mm is about the limit. However, just recently I noticed an 83mm specimen from France being offered. Surely, the epitome of "classic" lucanid form! Attachment Deleted

You and I both Paul have wondered that. Did you ever have chance to collect this marvelous species in Poland while you lived there? I had an 80mm specimen in my collection for some time out of Charkow Poland but, a friend/fellow collector who saw it asked me several times to trade it and I finally caved in to get something else which I liked in his collection. A good trade all around.

I only started to collect Coleoptera while in Thailand therefor my collection is very small. Paul
