This morning I receive my copy of this very impressive book from my friend Alain Coache COACHE Alain, RAINON Bernard, SINZOGAN Antonio Atlas illustré des Rhopalocères du Bénin Abomey Calavi, CEREB, 2017 ; in-4°, 732 pp., 230 color plates. 10 years of hard work to produce this over 3 Kilogram book ! The book is dedicated to Torben B Larsen with forewords from Steve Collins and Sáfián Szabolcs. 470 species of butterflies are recorded fron Benin compared with the 200 species previously known. All species are represented full size for males and females (upperside and underside) with detailed distribution maps. This beautiful book is available from the main author at alain.coache@gmail.com A+, Michel

I received my copy last week. An impressive book with many photographs. Of particular help is that all species/ subspecies are pictured showing upperside and underside of both sexes. The photos also cover variation within a species. Text is a bit sparse giving mainly only distribution details and flight periods. It is , however, a book well worth having as it covers an area of West Africa of which there is no other comprehensive literature.

Yes but :
Benin language is French and this book was also done to help local entomologists / scientists. "Les Papillons du Zaire" has become a must about African entomology and it was written in French too.
+ as the book is mainly done with : species pictures, precise maps, flying period, locality names. (see pictures above) Even a people with no clue in French can easily use it. Don't worry.
Maybe mcheki who isn't French can confirm that ?

You are correct about me. I am English and also, my French is very poor. However this book does not need a great understanding of the language it is written in (French) as it is easily worked out. There is not a lot of descriptive text. Distribution of each species and locality lists of where each are to be found in Benin, flight time calendar bar and larval foodplants are understandable regardless of your own language. Being written in French is not an obstacle in this case. Look at the previous picture of Page 555 in the post Mygos sent on Jan 8th.
