I recently acquired this quite large katydid through my dealer. He had purchased 4 of them on "the cheap" as A2's and this one was the largest of the lot. It came customarily packaged with closed wings and "bunched up" legs. The task at hand was to relax it out and reveal what treasure (if any) I had. After, 3 days of softening up I decided that I was going to give it a "full blown" restorative effort in homage to it's singular magnificence ! What you see before you are the fruits of my labor. With the exception of the slightly damaged forewings (acquired in life) and the partially missing left antennae (lost in life); it is a surprisingly spectacular species. Wingspan is just over 8.5 inches ! Nothing about the specimen was otherwise damaged so (no repairs) were needed. Even the thinner clear hindwings were somehow undamaged. So, with that it only took some tactful "artistic flair" to bring it to life. I am quite pleased with the results. The species hails from Thailand and has certainly got to be 2nd or 3rd in size to the New Guinea colossus Siliquofera grandis...

I remember large ones of these are about 8" long with wings closed, or maybe a bit more. They are absolutely amazing bugs.
