I have another doubt regarding Papilio blumei. Is a valid subspecie P. blumei fruhstorferi (Röber, 1897)?

Real P. blumei fruhstorferi from SW Sulawesi do seem to be different, the problem is that many ssp. blumei from Palopo or other places further north are sold as fruhstorferi from Bantimurung by local dealers who mix localities. In reality P. blumei is rare in Bantimurung, and most fruhstorferi come from Camba and other places in SW Sulawesi.

Thanks. Do you have any pictures of both of them in order to help me to identify the specimens I have (male/female) coming from Palopo, as you are mentioning?

If they come from Palopo they should all be ssp. blumei. Here is a small photo (posted for educational purpose - copyright BMNH) of the underside of the type of blumei: Adam.

... and here is a small photo (posted for educational purpose - copyright BMNH) of the underside of the type of fruhstorferi: Note the way the pale subapical band on the forewing bends over the apex of the cell towards the costa, whereas in blumei it does not. There are other differences, as stated by Jordan (1909) in Seitz: "In fruhstorferi Rob., from South Celebes, the band of the forewing is placed at some distance from the apex of the cell, so that basally to the lower radial its distal margin enters the cell and the black apical part of the cell is at least half as broad as the band; moreover in both sexes the light distal area of the forewing beneath is broader and the basal area of both wings more thickly dusted with yellowish." Umm.. The male looks blumei but the female seems to be fruhstorferi. What do you think?

Your female looks like ssp. blumei to me. Bear in mind that the green band on the upperside is narrower in the female than the male. Here's a photo of female fruhstorferi from Camba (a friend's photo): The forewing underside bends round much closer to the apex of the cell. Adam.

Thanks Adam. As I told before, you are a great expert in Achillides.
