A pink aberration of Zygaena filpendulae stephensi ; although showing only five spots, the arrangement and date seen, leads me to believe it is this species. Six-spot Burnet moths with one spot missing or joined are quite frequent in nature. This example not only have pale pink spots but just before it took flight it revealed the hindwing of the same colour. This pink aberration may be named, although I have yet to find a reference to it. There was a strong colony Z. filpendulae stephensi at Colchester, which produced a number of these pink aberrations. Below. Pink ab of Zygaena filpendulae stephensi. Limestone quarry, Portland, Dorset, July 2017. Below. Pink abs of Zygaena filpendulae stephensi from Colchester, Essex, 1895.
