There are 2 ways to attach a picture : - the smart way : host your picture somewhere on the web, then use the "Insert image" icon (the small icon with a picture on it : ) and enter your picture's url. You can use imgur.com/ to host your images on the web. This way your pictures will appear big, and you can put 100 pictures per post. - the costful way (for the admin), use the "Add Attachment" button then click on "Add Files" and select it on your computer. Please use this option only for pictures that don't exist yet on the web. To avoid an explosion of hosting fees, attachments are limited to one per post.

Please find below a detailed explanation on how to use the "smart way" to attach pictures. - Put your picture on internet : we recommend you to use Imgur, on a blog or on any other website. - right click on the picture that is on internet, - click on "Properties" - copy the url, - then write your message on the forum and click on this icone to attach your pictures - paste the url in the "Image URL" - it's done It may seem hard for the first time, but it takes 10 seconds when you are used too. Doing so, there is no hosting fee for the forum. Hope it is clearer. Of course, you can still use the "Add attachment" button if you prefer. No problem.

Well, I tried to use Imgur but, after 25 minutes of frustration I had to give up and throw in the towel. So, I guess I'll just have to wait until attachment space is available...

Yes, it can be confusing at first, I also had problems trying to work it out. What you have to do is open imgur.com and assuming you are logged on (it remembers you if you told it to) you will see your user name at the top right. Hover your mouse on the user name and a dropdown menu will appear. Click the word "Images", then you will see a green "Add Images" button. You can then choose and upload photos. After the images are uploaded you can right click on a thumbnail to open an image then hover your mouse over the image and a URL will appear with the word "Copy" and a dropdown menu symbol. Hover over the dropdown symbol and then click on "Get share links". You will then see 4 choices of links and click "Copy" next to the one labelled "BBCode (Forums)". You can then paste the copied link into the text where you want the photo to appear in the forum post and the pics will appear after you post the reply or create a post. Adam.

I have noticed that the forum has once again reached it's attachment space limit. I have seen this for many days now. Are we no longer posting pictures using the "Add attachment/ Add files" button? I have always found this method ideal (speaking for myself); and I really do try to do my best not to over-use the option by posting too often or by posting pictures of all too common (irrelevant) things/ subjects. I realize this method costs so I try to be very judicial about any pictured posts I make. Would hate to see it go away and I don't find Imgur all that user friendly as I still cannot seem to post a picture thru them. Furthermore, the pictures Imgur cranks out seem to turn out "Gigantosaur" sized which is un-necessary and I don't have any reason to post multiple pictures on any post. As things go here on the forum; I don't see a lot of folks posting much in the way of pictures generally. Lots of readers and interest judging by the "hits" on various topics posted. Some occasion comments made and some measure of "likes" posted by people who like the thread or post. I would like to continue contributing whenever possible and photo's are naturally a part of getting ones ideas across -- especially to those many in-experianced or un-informed upstarts to the hobby/ interest.

Do you have a Flickr account? Personally I always use that; it's easy and doesn't incur charges to our host. If you (or anyone else) wants some basic info to share via Flickr, let me know here and I'll post the info.

Deliasfanatic, yes I would be interested in any information you can provide regarding Flickr. Perhaps, if it is more user friendly I may switch over to posting that route. I know I'm probably just doing some sort of "mis-step" in trying to sign on to Imgur but, just where that mis-step is occurring prevents me from going forward. I must admit that only getting frustrated with the process as I have does not help.

I've never tried Imgur. Previously I used Photobucket, as did Nomad and others here, but their sudden greed in trying to charge exorbitant fees caused us to look elsewhere.
With Flickr, first you need to set up a free account; then you can upload photos, organize them into folders and groups, etc. To post a photo to a forum such as this, go to your Photostream, click on the photo that you want to share, then click the small arrow (second of four symbols under the lower right corner of the photo). It will bring up several options; choose "BBCode", then click the dropdown box that comes up with a choice of image sizes from small to full-sized. After making your size choice, a url will display in the line above the sizes; just copy and paste it here, and you're done. It's very easy after you've done it once or twice, but if you need further help, let me know.

I use imgur and apart from one episode where apparently there was a misunderstanding, I find it simple to use, one click and my image is here, plus yet, there are no restrictions on how many images you can upload and its free. Yes most hosting sites give you Gigantosaur sized pics, good for life insects, not so good for specimens images, unless its a box of them, the trouble is, is that if you reduce the size of your images by copy and paste, you get terrible definition, so I gave up on that. The good thing about a hosting company is that it is free and does not cost the forum anything.

Thanks to the explanations provided by Adam Cotton, and by placing my photos on Imgur, I now manage to place them easily on this site. So far, my photos are placed in Google+ (ex-Picasa). And I still have not understood, despite several attempts, how to proceed from Google+! If anyone knows this connection, let him explain! Google+'s interest is that we can geotag each photo, which is important in lepidopterology . With Picasa (now closed by Google: we wonder why! ), It was even better since we could also specify the altitude. Regarding geolocation, Picasa was much better than Google+. In the latter, we proceed by inserting the name of the place. With Picasa, we opened the map and we placed the pointer on the exact place of the photo. The map appeared in two modes: satellite view or map with indication of the altitude curves. However, the entomologist often frequents unnamed places (for example, such a path in the Amazon) and is active more in remote places than in towns or villages. With Google+, one is forced to indicate the name of a locality, so that the geographical precision is more vague. In this regard again, if someone knows better than me the operation of Google+, he explains it to me! Picasa was perfect from an academic point of view. Google+ seems destined to satisfy especially those who store their holiday photos!

Welcome to the ICF kkarnsSince that was posted in 2014 the "add attachment" feature has had to be disabled for all members except donors due to high storage costs borne by the owner. Adam.
