Great Britain will always give a warm welcome our French friends. It is only twenty miles away. The only real difference is that now we can govern ourselves instead of letting Brussels do it for us. By the way the majority of Scots voted to stay in the European Union and now there is talk of another independence referendum but not for at least two years.

Here in the Midwest (US), there is already talk about how this will impact Rolls Royce (very major jet engine design and manufacturing facility here in Indiana) and the expected loss of the very good jobs that the plant provides. It is assumed that with essentially no UK trade agreements in place, the non-military market will dry up.
Brexit will ripple across the global economy in unpredictable ways...

As politics is forbidden here, I won't share my position about what I would have voted.
I just want to say that I see 2 scenari now: - the political one : EU cannot afford to lose another country now and they have to make an example : France will move its border from Calais to Dover (as it should be) and migrants will massively arrive into UK (how ironical), European banks will leave the City, EU will finance independantists in Scotland and so on
- the economical one : a crolling UK will of course have a bad impact on EU economy. Everyone needs a nice divorce to lose as few as possible, UK will rapidly sign a good partnership treaty as Switzerland or Norway have with the EU
We will see...

Well as politics is forbidden here I have just deleted my post, but then why not delete the whole thread because there is no point giving any input why Britain made a Brexit.

France will move its border from Calais to Dover (as it should be) I am sorry but I don't get it. Why would any country move it's borders now? Why would the border lie in British territory? Anyway, if more people would now hop over the channel they would still have no right to stay and no VISA and can be put out of country asap. Putting a bit more of reality into this thread to finish it. I am sure that not too many things will change. There is too much money and too many people involved. Also the EU shouldn't have to have any grudge against them now. The UK will definitely go into some trade agreement like Switzerland and Norway starting from the day they leave the EU. Passport checks will come back. British banks will transfer some of their departments to European cities. This will transfer/create jobs in the EU, and cut them on British territory. The EU will now be able to concentrate on solving problems, and does not have to concentrate on solving a problem AND giving a special treat to the UK. Scotland cannot make another referendum for 2 years. I hope that by then the UK is back on its feet, going economically as strong, or stronger as before, and then hopefully separation movements will stop. I am in fear about Northern Ireland and hope that the local skirmish war will not rise up ever again. No comment on detailed intra EU politics. These are just statements about the situation, I hope it doesn't go too much into real politics. Politics is interesting, you have to formulate it in a polite way, but I do agree that if you want to stay friends you best leave out conversations on politics and religion. I am ok if this thread is getting locked, closed, or deleted.

Anyway, if more people would now hop over the channel they would still have no right to stay and no VISA and can be put out of country asap. True that my formulation is not clear. I will explain it for non-English and non-French people who may not now the situation. The border between France and the UK is in the middle of the Channel and border controls have always been on French side for people coming from Great Britain and on the English side for people coming from Europe. In the 2000ies, Sarkozy signed a treaty with UK to transfer the controls of migrants going to the UK from the English side to the French side. It was one of the "deals" we made with UK in order to keep them "in". Of course this was before the current migrant crisis we now know and the cost for France has exploded, cost in money, but also in "human rights": French police doing the "bad job" for the UK. Most French politics and citizens see now no reason to do this anymore. So they will just stop the costly controls. And UK may live what Italy is living since the fall of Lybian dictature who was doing the "bad job" for Europe : migrants arriving by boats, by the tunnel and so on everyday. That's why the part of the "leave" voters who voted against immigration may have been fooled. We'll see. I hope the UK economy won't suffer too much for my English friends. But all people who have divorced know how costful and painful it can be in the short term.

dp1965,
I expect that admin removed the parts of the post that were overtly political and left the rest. I am sure he would do the same with other posts if he felt it was right to do so.
By the way, welcome to ICF!

According to a paper released by the German Finance Ministry they have advised that the U.K be made an Associate Member Country, I imagine this is the same as mentioned with Switzerland and Norway, the paper also cites concerns that 5 other E.U members (France and Holland are 2 named) may also follow the U.K out.
